Prerequisites
- EP certificate on hill or tow
What you need to bring with you
- Water to drink and food to eat for each day of your course.
- Log book(s), Licences and Medical Certificate
- Association membership
- Additionally, if abroad abroad, Passport, Driving Licence, Accident insurance including repatriation, National insurance no E111 available from your post office.
What you will learn
- To fly a hang glider in the fully prone position
- The techniques for accurate and consistent spot landing.
- Soaring techniques in both dynamic and theremal lift generated by ridges and mountains.
- Top landing techniques (as and when conditions allow)
- The techniques of stall recognition and safe stall recovery.
The tasks you will need to complete
- Carry out 12 flatland or gentle take offs and landings without touching the wing tip to the ground.
- Fly fully prone demonstrating full control
- Make 3 landings, safely, on your feet, at designated landing place
- Make 3 flights each of 5 minutes duration
- Pass both the theory exam and final assessment
Priviledges you will enjoy on obtaining this certificate/rating
- To join and fly with an approved BHPA club.
- To fly with out the assistance of an instructor.
- Fly your own equipment.
Course Timetable
- The course time-table always varies due to weather conditions and location.
Morning and evening air is generally better for training as the air is calmer, therefore, it is necessary to discuss with your instructor his plan for the start time of your course.
The next steps
- Gain some experience and airtime flying with your own clubs environment
- Look into alternative methods of of being launched, ie aerotowing or FLPA (powered). Whilst these additional launch methods will require you to undergo additional training they are excellent ways of helping you to maximise your airtime
