Prerequisites
- You must have at least a CPC rating (hill or tow) with a minimum of 5 hours airtime or 25 tow launches
- Your own glider fitted with a suitable power unit (available for purchase through Lejair)
What you need to bring with you
- Water to drink and food to eat for each day of your course.
- Association membership
- Additionally, if abroad, Passport, Driving Licence, Accident insurance including repatriation, National insurance no E111 available from your post office.
- Your flying kit and power unit.
What you will learn
- The practical details on how to fly a, solo, powered hang glider
- The differences between power on and power off flying (note: power does not make the aircraft go faster)
- The care and safe keeping of your power unit.
- All aspects of air law relating to FLPA flying.
The tasks you will need to complete
- Carry out a number of take offs, circuits and landings.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of your power unit in terms of servicing requirements, fuel mixture, rigging and setup along with thrust and torque effects. Understand the importance of complying with manufacturers instructions and recommended procedures.
- Acquire 5 hours air time on your rig.
- Successfully carry out a 15 kilometre Out and Return cross country flight.
- Pass an examination and a final assessment.
Priviledges you will enjoy on obtaining this certificate/rating
- You are free to fly with your power unit according to the BHPA code of practice.
- You will share third party insurance cover under the BHPA's master policy provided your BHPA membership remains current.
